Music Reviews...

Is it best to make an honest opinion, a diplomatic opinion, a suck-up opinion or no opinion at all?

I usually go for the first option, but sometimes notice that some artists simply get pissed off if you even dare comment on one of their creations (like some sort of over-protective mother).

Yes, I do agree that a good song requires a lot of effort and time, and that some people might get really upset that all their work turns into a 3/5 score, but it doesn't necessarily mean that if you took a month to make song it will become an all-time-top-scoring song. I mean, an honest opinion might help an artist understand what he/she should focus on in order to evolve to something even better, but that could be just my way of thinking.

How do you guys review a song? Any suggestions?

Of course being diplomatic helps if you want to be taken seriously, but basically an honest opinion is what artists search (and if they don't, they should) for. Constructive criticisms are much better than suck-up 10s, not to even talk about unexplained 0s.

The lower score will always 'sting' a little bit, but it's the trial and error that makes you better.

Thanks. It's good to know I'm not the only one thinking that way.

I always try to mix in the "bad" stuff with the good stuff. Criticism is great, but only getting criticism makes you feel like a complete failure. I think that encouragement is just as important as criticism. After all, I'm just trying to help, not to make things worse.

True. I'll probably use this format (even though I never write harsh things in reviews anyway). Thanks.
