Cheers c(_)

Sexual-Lobster responds:

a lot of people are saying that, but there's nothing unusual in this flash code wise. i don't think its me!

This animation was a mixed bag of feelings... your artwork was great, but "The Moleman" concept was just wierd. There was absolutely nothing in this flash that made me smile, let alone laugh, and I'm honestly not surprised that you had trouble creating a "coherent narrative" from it?

4.5 stars to you
1.5 stars (2 maybe?) to WMR

The original was great, but this was even better. Pure gold.

There is nothing... absolutely nothing I can say against this flash. Extremely fluid and details animations, attention to detail (lip-syncing included), great choreographed fighting sequences, funny voice acting, great sound design and overall hilarious... and I'm sure I missed something else along the line.

Amazing job.

Very good

Fascinating bleak scenery. It reminded me of Evangalion for some reason... probably the choice of color palette, the presence of impaled figures, the and inverted pyramid in an underground geofront.

The music was very particular, in a good way. The creepy and distorted essence was its main attraction, but there was more to it... a dash of sentiment and sorrow as well that made it a very good soundtrack while walking around.

The gameplay, on the other hand, was dull at times. The fact that your objectives were pretty much to pull some switches and get some keys to open some door without any major understanding of where you were going and why, with little variation, made it seem like a chore, but the music and scenery helped keep up the interest... alot of eye candy in this game.

The story was a little hard to come by... but I just read the explanation you gave in your blog post and the things that happened in-game are starting to get clearer now.

Overall this was a very polished and nice looking game. Much detail was put into it and it shows.

Thank you for uploading this.

What? That's a doughnut?!

The "Doughnut" puzzle was pure BS. The final pixel art looked nothing like a doughnut... it looked more like something you'd find in sushi (i.e. makizushi).

Besides, succeeding in the beginning of the harder puzzles was only a matter of luck. You'd look for the rows or columns that had larger numbers and presume that the correct slot would probably be towards the center... and then you'd try your luck. I couldn't see the puzzle element in that. I was just randomly guessing... I felt powerless.

Apart from that, I appreciated the rest of the game. The overall look seemed very polished, the sound effects were great and the music was very appropriate for that chill-and-think feel.

I would've given this game a 9/10, hands down, if it wouldn't have been for that non-puzzle/luck-based aspect of the game at the beginning of (and, sometimes, during) each puzzle.

Great work, nonetheless.

Extremely undeserving score (2.36)

This is a great game and the controls work perfectly. You can choose to use the control on screen or drag with the mouse.

The music seems more fitting in a war-like game, but it's still cool enough to keep you focused while solving the puzzle.

I'm astonished at the low score. Either you've been zero-bombed/sabotaged or the player-base can't get passed the cube on easy. Shame on you guys on voting so low on such a great game.

tpodhraski, I'm sure you've done it already, but if you didn't... implement this for iPhones and iPads (and android phones, maybe?). You'll be earning so much money with this game, imo. It just screams "touchscreen compatibility". The typical user-base consists of casual gamers. Minesweeper is perfect for that demographic. Plus, it is known how iPhone user will buy even the dumbest of apps if it's just EU0.99... imagine how willing they'd be for your game, dude.

Best of luck.

Nice ideas

Nice intro. Those panning sounds are great at making me get immersed in what's to come. Unfortunately, the bass doesn't seem to be precise in the execution, which is hurting the overall song a bit. In terms of richness of tone, on the other hand, it's making the song full and enveloping.

0:19 that off-beat slicing of the bass in some parts didn't really work for me. Overall the music is good, don't get me wrong, but this off-beat takes some of my attention away (in a bad way). I might be the only one, though, so don't take me too seriously.

1:23: odd cross-fade transition that didn't seem to tie well with the previous groove.

This other version, however, is VERY chill and laid-back, btw (which I really like... nice). It feels very intimate and something you'd hear in a dimmed place with some good friends and a pint of beer. Those trippy pads just make this just great. My only complaint might be to be more careful with the mixing... those pads seem to be suffocating the other instruments for a very brief moment (easier said than done, I know, but I'm just pointing it out).

Very nice ideas you've got, dude. Keep on grooving :)

RunningShadows responds:

Thanks, the little intro panned strumming guitar parts is actually one of the most complex parts. I for one LOVE the syncopated bass line, however I can understand it falling flat for some listeners. I agree, the transition was troublesome for me... but it was worse before lol.

Thanks again for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

well... damn...

Very nice beginning. I'm actually liking this alot.

1:45 - 2:39 => a bit repetitive and dull. The voice is VERY synthetically stretched, kind of ruining the whole feel of authenticity I had before.

2:40 - 3:14 => pretty much like the part before, making this repetitive.

3:15 => I'm starting to lose grasp of where you're intending to go, melodically speaking. I got sort of bored here onward.

In conclusion:
It had VERY good potential during the beginning, but then everything went crashing down little by little. A real shame, really.

I'll give you top marks for the structure used for the percussions. Bravo. I wish I were this good. Really really well done... but blended with the rest, however, a 7/10 is all I can give you. Sorry.

Shiverwar responds:

Ah, no worries. I knew this one wasn't my best either. I don't mind you giving me a 7/10, because I look for honesty, not constant praise, and honesty is exactly what I get from you. Thanks for your review.

Nice

You're getting close to some epic metal here.

I seem to be noticing that there are certain melodic progressions that you tend to repeat throughout your songs.

Anyway, overall nice drum pattern and guitar+bass sound. The structure is good.

Shiverwar responds:

I thank you for your review. :D

I recognize that sneer and those lips...

That's RanXerox alright. Lookandsee nailed it. Even the manikin has the same cyber-brain RanXerox has in the comics (I might even recall him having the same posture the manikin has during his repairs, but I'm not 100% sure).

Apart from that your artwork is very nice. The lighting gives it a good sense of realism, but there's something about the muscle tension (or lack of something holding the manikin) that's doesn't give your drawing a sense of weight. My very humble opinion, though.

About giving you a small story to develop from... well... because of what I said in the beginning, I can't really think of anything that isn't influenced by RanXerox. Hope someone else can help you out.

So much personality in her

Her eyes are a blend between sad and angry. She looks like someone who has suffered alot but chose to fight it away. She has this half grin, menacing... as if she were boarding an enemy ship, ready to take over. She knows what she's doing and demands to be treated seriously.

That beautiful sky makes me think of a caribbean scenario. I can almost hear the creaking ropes of a 19th century frigate, the winds blowing on the sails and the ocean waves splashing on its hull.

This picture just makes me want to know more about what's going on. What story is she telling us? Where is she heading? Who is she looking at?

Very nice.

......

wow...

So much movement and dynamism in this. So much light. So many soft colors. When I look at this portrait I have this strange sensation: as if I were on a terrace facing the sea, with beautiful balconies and the mixed smell of seaside wind and freshly cut grass...

...now that is a great gift for a friend...

...wow.
