Very good

The piano's melody is excellent (as always). Maybe playing it slightly faster in some parts would've made it even more fabulous, but I could probably be wrong.

I hear you also added that nice flute of yours that would timidly make it's appearance once in a while. Am I wrong or did you add also another two flutes in? It doesn't matter. Good choice.

The chord progression of the strings is enchanting. However, I must agree with KillerExchange regarding a part (1:52-3:36) that sounds "rather harsh". It's nothing drastic but it's noticeable.

I appreciated the chorus alot.

The indian drum was good, but I personally didn't like the part where you left the drums by themselves [1.44-1.52 & 3.36-3.42] since it took away the whole mood given by the strings and chorus. That's probably me just thinking that, though.

The gong in the background was a good touch, and with that indian drum gave a very appreciated ethnic feeling.

Overall, the song was like some sort of blend between eastern and western music. Excellent work.

5/5 <- I'm NOT going to be the one lowering your score. I hope it'll stay 4.76/5 :o).

P.S. Sorry for being such a stingy bastard in the review, but it's simply because after listening to most of your repertoire I believe you can push your music even further. I know you're capable of it ;o). Become the chill-king.

Stalagmite responds:

LOL. wowza! that is one hell of a review! well!
the piano melody is played extremely fast in some areas, just subtly though.
i certainly used two flutes in this piece. very faded, but i wanted to make it all subtle.

LOL. and yes. that synth is OMG how powerful. i am sorry about that. it needs master alot more. I will certainly resubmit it if votes will change.
I liked the drums, although i personally feel they gat a little annoying LOL. leaving the drums solo was a bad idea to i agree. it wasnt neccesary.

well, thanks so much for this juicy review! I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT! but i am well guttd that my score has gotten lower than my other musics. damn! LOL. it stayed on 5 for about an hour! with 5 votes too! LOL. GUTTED!

thanks a bunchy! :D:D:D

Good

This is actually quite nice! The usual mario-tune slightly modified is interesting and makes me want to listen to it till the end without forcing me to ;o).

Even though it's a song, it still happens to loop well too.

Volume control is all well done. Nothing is overpowering or covering any instrument.

The only thing I didn't like was the hat patten that would loop once in a while [0:12-0:17] simply because at a certain point it sounded a bit off-rhythm.

Good job

P.S. I liked that sound from 0:24-0:25. It reminded me of a sound effect during the game. Both appropriate and well timed imo.

ReFreezed responds:

This is actually the first song I made without headphones, which is probably why the volume of everything is better than in most of my songs.

I never noticed that the hat was off. I'll fix that right away.

Oh, and thanks for a great review!

hmm...

The music in itself is very nice, but there are some points where the guitar riff seems slightly off rhythm (somewhere between 1:05-1:15 and then afterwards it loops again) and there was a point at 1:00-1:02 where the square-wave sound made some strange concluding melody (didn't sound good i.m.o.)

Yup the more the song progresses the more I'm certain that the guitar is noticeably off-rhythm in certain points. Nothing huge, but enough to make the song not perfect.

I didn't like how it ends from 04:24-04:26.

Overall good, but those flaws force to give you a lower score:
7/10 (I would've easily given this a 9/10, sorry)

Wow...

Now THAT is cailloup's idea brought to a whole other level.

The piano was touching. That flute-sounding instrument makes this appropriate for some Final Fantasy like rpg.

Citing what you said:
"i am just a medium through which you channel them"

You sir are one hell of a medium then :o).

The only thing that seemed a bit strange was that low pad from 0:14-0:17. It seemed too different to the other instruments you used (it almost seemed inappropriate).

Fantastic job, nonetheless.

P.S. Is it me or is there a "glitch" in the melody from 0:51-0:52?

Stalagmite responds:

LOL!. no it is not a glitch. i played it live, and i always screw up! LOL. the instrument on my keyboard "FARGO" is the odd synth you are talking about. It is innapropriate i agree. I guess thought it was eery and mysterious, but turns out i now agree that it sounds like a wet fart. :D:D:D also that flute has an additional instrument attatched to it. Some kind of a high bell, quite subtle, but very effective in delivering the F.F. mysterious factor. one of my favourite instruments actually
thank you for your awesome review, and banging scores! always appreciated! take care!

Very interesting

There are some very nice touches you put in this preview:

-0:30-0:40 -------------------------------

That little high pitched melody was fantastic. Just progressively add more overlapping melodies later on in the song and that would be an almost instant 10 for me ;o)

-1:10-1:18 -------------------------------

I might be very wrong, but for the moment this new sound seems to be missing something. Maybe more reverb? Maybe more cutoff as well? Please make it slightly different from how it sounds right now. It would be a shame imho ;o).

Oh, one more thing. I noticed that in this time-segment you were making a build-up to the previous high-pitched melody I wrote about. I might be wrong but the two synths aren't harmonising too well in the first 5-10 steps [1:10-1:12] (I might be wrong, but check it out).
-------------------------------------
------

Overall very interesting. I am curious to hear how the final product will sound like.

Keep up the good work.

Sacrafan responds:

Cool. my comp crashed, so i might have lost it... :( i'm sooo sad..

Nice

Appreciated all the variation and the melody to it.

I think that 0:42-0:56 time-segment was left a little empty too quickly. I personally would've made a transition by fading the previous melody in background (not remove it entirely) and in the meanwhile I would gradually modify the cutoff and resonance in such a way that it would've linked to the 0:56-1:09 time-segment (hope it was clear).

Apart from that, the melody is dynamic and fun. I especially liked the two synths you made; they're pretty original and fit well in the song.

Good job.

Sacrafan responds:

sorry, i couldnt respond quickly, i'll do this by section.

Thank you alot!! =D

I see what you mean... i dont know how to create an automation with an external vsti like Vanguard.... I could probably figure it out, i know where the cutoff wheel is...

I loved those synths too! lol... i wish my comp hadn't crashed, i would remake it...

Thank you. i rate this review:

imma check ur music now!

let's all go to Australia!

This one's a good song as well even though it's pretty short.

The whole melody you used in the entire song (0:42-0:49) was superb :o).

Not the best of the four contest submissions but very good as well.

Stalagmite responds:

thanks alot man! i really appreciate your input. although i remain gutted LOL.
it is short coz the kids get tired towards this point of the puppet show. so i just go out with a short bang LOL.
And yes. Aussies are the wickedest thing eva! :D:D:D

I have a feeling...

... that this one's the contest winner! :o) The lyrics are good and I actually appreciated the voice. It's appropriate in making the song perfect for a kid's show!

Good job in adding the Didgeridoo in the music as well.

All the criteria for the contest are covered in this one. Best of luck.

Stalagmite responds:

Gutted lol. i wont win. because i cant enter it.
I really ope they make the acception at least with one song? well... i will have to wait and see. thanks for your awesome score and review! i really appreciate it!

Best of the four!

This is a nice one.

I like the structure of it all:
- The percussions were nicely structured and continuously changed.
- The flute in the beginning and in the rest of the song was excellent
- The chimes had a nice melody and weren't cluttering, which brings me to another point...
-... Very good equalizing. The instruments weren't covering each other which is something I try to avoid.

Great job. Instant 10 and 5.

Stalagmite responds:

thank you so much! LOL. really appreciate this! i am actually really proud of this one now. because it has the most comments, and positive input. it may have been a winner lol. i am getting upset now though LOL. thanks so much for your great input! o really am thankful for your reviews! P.S. can you please build me a time machine so i can go back in time and "unsubmit" my work before the contest? LOL
thank you so much. :D:D:D

Yipee

He he. I'm glad you submitted the songs for the contest. You deserve the prize most of all, imho.

0:37-0:45 was excellent. There's nothing happier than an Irish riff.

Only flaw. It's rather short.

Great job nonetheless.

Stalagmite responds:

LOL! i can not submit any to the contest!!!!!!
DAMN!
he said they have to be created with the intention of entering it for the contest within the month. i submitted all my works during February so i do not validate for this contest! Pardon my french... but......HOW CRAP!!!
what is worse is my Mic doesnt work and i have no programmes! so i can hardly make another song.
I am SO gutted! LOL. never mind. i think they are dong it every month. i will have another go another time. maybe. LOL. thanks for the review and awesome score. :D:D:D
