hmm...

Having listened to the song you submitted before (City Block) I couldn't help but notice how, unfortunately, the voice ruined it for me. I don't mean it in a malicious way, but it's not upto the music's level. Plus, the volume of the voice is slightly loud and is covering the music. I may be a little stingy right now, but another thing I didn't like was the fact that you used a vocoder on a genre that, imho, isn't appropriate for it. Maybe I'm a little conservative about jazz ;o).

If I exclude the voice, this would've been my opinion:

0:32-1:02 very catchy and nice.

1:04-1:11 very pleasant transition (the piano is beautiful)

1:12-1:35 was orgasmic. I wish I could have enough skill to make it sound music that way too. The trumpet in general is breath-taking.

1:36-1:52 Paso Doble? Interesting (especially with the trumpet).

2:18-2:24 Didn't like the guitar sound there. Too much plucking that sounded a bit too fake.

2:25-2:40 Nice, nice, nice. The guitars were working together in an amazing way. I also loved the drum build-up there.

Nice. Everything seemed so real (except some very few exception as before mentioned). How the hell do you do it? The drum beats are fantastic and I'm trying to learn the pattern. I noticed that it doesn't change (pieces of the beat tend to come and go alternatively but no change in the structure), but it sounds so good that it doesn't need to :o). (Excluding the voice) You successfully improved City Block.

Without voice: 10/10

With voice: 7/10 (sorry)

Looking forward to listening to your next creations ;o).

Cheers

MusicIsBliss responds:

wow thanks for the review, there is also a non vocal version because i agree about the vocals.
the reason they are bad is because i cant really sing, but love to do it, so it takes alot to make my singing not suck.

and the drums are like that because they are pre-done drum loops, about 4 layered overtop of eachother and changed a bit

Congrats

It sounds pretty good. Congrats on the fact that you're not using any presets. I honestly don't know how to you use 3xosc yet, so props to anyone who does.

The sidechaining effect works well and considering that it's an experimental loop, there's absolutely nothing that appears to be wrong with it [ it's actually quite loopable ;o) ].

Keep up the good work.

Nice

The fast-paced riffs are very interesting. The beat is dynamic.

The real problem is that it seems a bit long and repetitive even though it's not, oddly enough. I mean, you continuously changed the riffs and melodies, yet I guess that the cause of this "repetitiveness" is the guitar that acts like a beat (heard in 0:07-0:12) that was a bit overused, but I might be wrong.

I didn't like the conclusion much. It seemed rushed.

Apart from these two things, the song can be heard over and over again without being annoying. This song could be interestingly useful for some strange game that has a "time-trial" aspect to it.

Good job.

MusicIsBliss responds:

thanks, ya, iguess i never really thought that the background guitar would make it repeditive, but it definately doesnt change much throughout the entire song, maybe i should make the second half of the song, well, less rushed

Very interesting

I must agree with WolfPriest. I can't really categorize it in any game genre, but anyway it's VERY nice :o).

Maybe this could be used in some kind of cartoony space-travel video game where you collect stars and stuff. Too bad that it's not a loop (making it hard to use in an actual game).

The only real flaw I noticed was that the mood from 0:00 to 1:14 seems different from that from 1:15 till the end, making it (as I said before) hard to use it in a game.

Very original and happy. Good job you guys.

Arcadish fun

This would be fun in some kind of retarded platform flash-game :o).

The melody is very well done and I found that the repetitiveness (as the others wrote) is actually a good thing if this song were used in a game since it shouldn't completely distract the gamer.

However, keep in mind that you should add some more layers in future songs (maybe add some strings or pads in the background in order to not make it sound too empty).

Keep up the good work :o).

yeah this was my first try at it, now i look back at it i wish i'd used a slightly more raw 'chip' voice.
In future i might try and mix this style with others a little more in future.
thanks for the review =)

LOL... the other side of you!

After listening to all the other serious-sounding songs you made this is a BIG contrast :o).

It's a very jolly, merry, happy, festive (and so on and so forth) song! I could see kids jumping on the sofa with this music.

Not my style, but it's still well done. There's seems to be nothing wrong with the song.

Good job once more.

Stalagmite responds:

yay! lol. cetainly is my "other" side. i compose kids music too! i host a puppet show you see, and they gotta boogy with mr jingles! LOL.
i am glad you couldnt find faults with it! but i can lol thanks so much for these reviews. i really do appreciate it!

Dude!

I thought the piano was a recording! That is a very natural feel you're giving of the presets man! It seems almost live.

I also notice that you're the king of relax. Cheers! When I'll need some music to study or read a book I'll surely download your music first!

Favouring you as an artist. Keep up the awesome work!

Stalagmite responds:

yay! i am favoured! woopy! lol. i will certainly work on my relaxing comps now. i wont bother with dance or anything. its a shame i have no current program enabling me to have the same settings on my piano, so i will have to work for another couple of days to get it right! doh!
I see my relaxing ones are what get peeps going, so i promise i wont sneek up on you with another "kid pow" mostrosity! lol. thanks a bunch. and take care mr Physicist! :D:D:D we could propably collab at some point? maybe if you have the time... or at least until you learn how to manipulate or create time LOL. :D

Wow...

The sound is very nice, but the bass and drums are covering the piano and other instruments. Damn it! It could've been the perfect music for a sci-fi-manga serious moment.

Maybe the beat seems a little clumsy, but it's always interesting to find NEW ways to create a beat, don't you think? ;o)

I really appreciated. Great job (as always from what I've heard so far)

Stalagmite responds:

thanks! i never thought of it like that. i am sorry for ruining your tender anime moment their kind sir! lol. if i had the original file i would send it to you without the drums. yayness on a stick. and thanks for your generous reviews! :D :D :D truly valued.

LOL Ozzy93

Ozzy93 made me laugh my ass off. I don't really see it in a Lesbian softcore porn scene, BUT in a very serious/poetic flash.

There seems to be a strange sound from 0:14 to 0:47 that sounds like when you switch on the gas in a stove.

The song's mood is almost indefinite and would fit very nicely in a scene such as this one:

"...The forest fire extinguished and there is a desolate silence all around... slowly the animals that survive emerge from their shelters and see what's left of the forest. Little by little, life will return to those barren grounds to their former beauty..."

Excellent job. You're really good.

Stalagmite responds:

lol! wicked. i think i did leave the gas on! no from what i remember with this song,, i added what was supposed to be "crickets and bugs" sound. to enhance the "life" of the peice. add more organics to it... However, it does sound terrible. i never noticed it till you said! lol. thanks alot for your review! :D:D:D

Nice

You're good at the piano man. Congrats.

From 0:00 to 1:47 this was perfect lounge-music to me.

However, I must agree with shatteredreamer. The conclusion didn't seem like one. I was craving a continuation ;o).

Fantastic job.

Stalagmite responds:

yayness! it certainly does not end well i will give you that! I am glad you can chill with it! and thanks for the reviews as well! you dont have to repay me or anything! lol. i will definately conclude my improves better... if i can fit it in! lol.
thanks again buddy!
